Pseudepigrapha: An Account of Certain Apocryphal Sacred Writings of the Jews and Early Christians (1891) is a book by William J. Deane.

Abstract

An introduction to the OT Pseudepigrapha.

After a general introduction, the volume devotes detailed chapters to eight "Jewish or Early Christian" pseudepigrapha--the Psalms of Solomon, 1 Enoch, the Assumption of Moses, 2 Baruch, the Testaments of the Twelve Patriarchs, the Book of Jubilees, the Ascension of Isaiah, and the Sybilline Oracles.

The approach is positive: the Pseudepigrapha were "sacred writings," which were composed in the name of ancient patriarchs, "not to deceive, but to conciliate favour."

Editions and translations

Published in Edinburgh: T&T Clark; and New York, NY: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1891. Reprinted in Charleston, SC: BiblioBazaar, 2008; and Edinburgh: T&T Clark, 2009.
