Biography

Peter Szondy was born May 27, 1929, in Budapest, Hungay. His father was the Hungarian-Jewish psychiatrist and psychoanalyst Léopold Szondi. The family escaped on board on the Kastner Train to Switzerland in December 1944, after five months in Bergen-Belsen.

Peter became a celebrated literary scholar and philologist and Professor at the Free University of Berlin.

He committed suicide in 1971.
