Lola Angel (F / Greece, 1937), Holocaust survivor

Biography

Lola Angel was born in 1937 in Greece. Lola's family fled to Athens from Thessaloniki in January 1941, a few months before the capital fell. In April 1944, the little girl and her family were put on a train to an unknown destination.

"We were packed atop each other and could hardly breathe. Many died en route."

Their destination was Bergen-Belsen. They were liberated on April 14, 1945 on the Magdeburg Train. After a long, exhausting route across a number of countries and refugee centers Lola and her family arrived to Bari Transit camp. From there they returned to Greece by boat. It was September 11, 1945.
