La passione di Gesù Cristo (1730) is an oratorio libretto by Pietro Metastasio.

Abstract

Pietro Metastasio wrote the libretto in Rome on the instruction of Charles VI, Holy Roman Emperor. It signals a departure from the settings of actual Gospel passion narratives to a more theatrical style. John, Mary Magdalene and Joseph of Arimathea answer Peter's questions about the crucifixion.

The libretto was set to music by many composers, starting with Antonio Caldara in 1730.
