Biography

NOTES : The date of birth is not clear. It is possible that Jurek was younger, but the date was altered to offer him better chances of survival. He grew up in the Lodz Ghetto, then deported to concentration camps, where he lost his mother. After the war he was reclaimed as a son by a person who Jurek was never sure if he was his real father. They settled in East Germany. As a political dissident, Jurek moved to West Berlin in 1977.
