Jesucristo Superstar = Jesus Christ Superstar, Spanish ed. (1989 Elena / @1970 Webber), Argentine production (opera)
Jesucristo Superstar / Jesus Christ Superstar (1989) is the first Argentine production of Jesus Christ Superstar (1970 Webber / Rice), opera, directed by Rubén Elena. Spanish version of the libretto by Nacho Artime and Jaime Azpilicueta.
Abstract
The first attempt to stage a production of Jesus Christ Superstar in Argentina in 1973 ended in disaster. When everything was ready for the premiere on May 2, just a few hours before lifting the curtain and after numerous threats and intimidation, a group of religious fanatics attacked the theater with molotov cocktails reducing it to ashes. The show had to be cancelled.
Only 16 years later, the musical was finally performed in Argentine.
