I giardini dell'Eden (1998) is a film directed by Alessandro D'Alatri.

Abstract

It is the only movie to focus on Jesus' Hidden Years, from the age of 12 to the beginnings of his preaching.

When Jeoshua (Jesus) is twelve years, he is brought by his parents to the temple in Jerusalem where he talks with the priests. Jeoshus grows to become a carpenter. After the death of his father, he arrives in Jerusalem where he meets some zealots who are organizing a revolt against the Romans. He then joins a caravan of pagan merchants who reach the most distant regions of the Roman Empire. So he comes in contact with different customs and religions. Back to Judea, with his cousin Jochanan (John the Baptist) he joins the Essene community of Qumran. There he studies the Scriptures until he and his cousin are expelled from the community. After having himself baptized by Jochanan, he becomes a preacher at the Jordan River and is tempted by the devil (which he fights). Jeoshua eventually returns to Galilee where he calls his first disciples and begins his preaching.
