Giovanni di Giscala, tiranno del tempio di Gerusalemme <Italian> / John of Giscala (1754) is a play by Alfonso Varano.
Abstract
"Tragedia." Generally regarded as the best Italian tragedy of the second half of the eighteenth century. The end of Giovanni is seen as the end not only of an individual but also of an entire nation and religion. From the catastrophe a new religion, the Christian, and a new people, the Roman, would emerge.
