Gáspár Károli (1529-1591) was a Hungarian scholar, Calvinist pastor, and the author of the first complete translation of the Bible into Hungarian language. Károli was born in Nagykároly [Hungary] very probably in 1529. Between 1556-1562, he studied at the University of Wittenberg. Between 1563-1591, he was Calvinist pastor in Gönc, and later superintendent of the Calvinist diocese of Cassovia-valley, too. He produced the first complete translation of the Bible into Hungarian language. The work was begun in 1586, the printing was made between 1589-1590. Károli died in Gönc [Hungary] in 1591.
