Fountain of the Fallen Angel (1885) is a sculpture by Ricardo Bellver on a pedestal designed by Francisco Jareño.

Abstract

The sculpture named The Fallen Angel is inspired by a passage from John Milton's Paradise Lost and represents Lucifer falling from Heaven. It was made in Rome by Ricardo Bellver in 1877 and then cast in bronze in Paris for the Exposition Universelle of 1878. Later on it was decided to locate it in the Retiro Park and thus architect Francisco Jareño designed a pedestal of granite, bronze and stone. The whole monument was inaugurated in 1885.

History and current location

The monument is still in its original location in the Retiro Park in Madrid, Spain.
