Gli ultimi giorni di Pompei <Italian> / The Last Days of Pompeii (1959) is a feature film (sound, color, 103m), directed by Mario Bonnard and Sergio Leone. Based on The Last Days of Pompeii (1834 Lytton), novel.

Abstract

Only The Last Days of Pompeii (1935 Schoedsack), film and this version of Lytton's novel attempted to include the story of Jesus and the crucifixion with the later eruption of Vesuvius. Bonnard's film, however, is less religious-oriented and opted to accentuate its arena and orgy sequences. Starring Steve Reeves (Glaucus).

Mario Bonnard was the credited director but it was actually his assistant director Sergio Leone who completed the film when Bonnard became severely ill during production.
