{en} Falling Leaves (USA, 1912), directed by Alice Guy-Blaché, starring Magda Foy. <silent; 12m.>

Trixie believes the only way she can save her older sister from dying of tuberculosis is by preventing the autumn leaves from falling, so one night she steals into the garden in her nightie and fastens fallen leaves to branches with twine.

Produced by Solax Studios and directed by early cinema trailblazer Alice Guy-Blaché. The narrative follows Little Trixie Thompson, portrayed by five-year-old Solax contract star Magda Foy, who takes a physician's words literally when he declares that her tuberculosis-stricken older sister will die "when the last leaf falls". Driven by naive childhood logic, the girl steals into the autumn garden at night to systematically tie fallen leaves back onto the branches with twine. Foy’s performance is historically significant for its naturalism, demonstrating how early independent cinema successfully constructed entire plots around a child's internal psychological reality rather than using them as mere background decoration. <EXTANT; online YES; music YES>
