Eastern Orthodox Sanctuary on Mount Tabor

The Eastern Orthodox Sanctuary on Mount Tabor (1862) is an Orthodox Church built on Mount Tabor, Israel.

Abstract

The church was built with funds from Romania in 1862 on Mount Tabor, the traditional location of the Transfiguration of Jesus, and dedicated to Elijah. It was the first religious structure built by Romanian Christians in the Holy Land.

The sanctuary also includes the Cave of Mechizedek, where according to some medieval Christian traditions Abraham met the king of Salem.
