Elionaeus ben Cantheras, of the House of Boethus, was the Jewish High Priest, 43-44 CE, under King Herod Agrippa I and Emperor Claudius.

Overview

Elionaeus ben Cantheras was a member of the House of Boethus; he succeeded Matthias ben Ananus of the House of Annas. During the reign of Herod Agrippa I, members of the two Priestly Houses regularly alternated. After his brief tenure, Elionaeus ben Cantheras was succeeded by a member of the House of Annas, Jonathan ben Ananus, who had already served as High Priest in 36-37 CE under Roman Governor Marcellus and Emperor Tiberius.
