Anne Mary Flower was born in London, England on January 4, 1790. Her father served as Lord Major of London. In 1810 she married the Hon. Michael Henry Perceval, Lieutenant Governor of Quebec, and settled in Canada. The couple had ten children. Anne Mary was highly educated, she spoke four languages (English, French, Italian, and Latin) and had a literary knowledge of several others. As an accomplished horticulturalist, she discovered around 150 new American species of plant. After the death of her husband in 1829, following a one-year sojourn of the family in Florence, Italy, she returned to Great Britain. She died on November 23, 1876 at Lewes Castle, Stornoway, Isle of Lewis, Scotland.
