Anne Catherine Emmerich (Anna Katharina Emmerick; 1774-1824) was a German visionary. Norn at Coesfeld [Germany] on September 8, 1774, she lived a life of seclusion as a Roman Catholic nun and visionary. She entered the Augustinian convent at Agnetenberg, Dülmen in 1802, and since 1813 was confined to bed. From 1819 to 1824, poet Clemens Brentano recorded her visions in a book which was published after her death in 1833. Emmerich died in Dülmen [Germany] on February 9, 1824. She was beatified on October 3, 2004 by Pope John Paul II.
