Biography

Tatiana Bucci (1937) and Andra Bucci (1939) were born in Italy. They were sisters but when they arrived at Auschwitz they were mistaken for twins as they looked very much alike. They were selected among the Mengele Twins for medical experiments, along with their little cousin Sergio De Simone (who perished in Hamburg after being subjected to medical experiments). The twin sisters were liberated at Auschwitz by the Red Army on Jan 27, 1945. They were taken to an orphanage in Prague. In March 1946 they were sent to England among the Belgicka Children, but were then reunited to their parents (the mother survived the camps, while the father was a P.O.W.). In December 1946, the twin sisters returned to Italy, where they lived ever since. Since 1995 they have accompanied student groups visiting Auschwitz.
