L'ebrea <Italia> / The Jewess (1844) is an opera by Giovanni Pacini (mus.) and Giacomo Sacchero (libr.). After Scribe.

Abstract

"Dramma lirico in quattro atti."

"La scena e' in Antiochia, al secolo I, sotto l'impero di Vespasiano."

The story is based on the famous drama (La Juive) by Eugène Scribe, set to music in France by Jacques Fromental Halévy in 1835. To avoid censure, the story is transferred back to Roman times. Only in 1865, the "original" version by Halévy would premiere in Italy at Teatro alla Scala of Milan.

Editions, performances, translations

Premiered in Milan [Italy]: Teatro alla Scala, 27 febbraio 1844; and then Barcelona [Spain]: 1847.
