John Marco Allegro (1923-1988) was a British scholar.
Biography
Professor at the University of Manchester. In 1953 was invited to be the first British representative on the international team working on the recently discovered Dead Sea Scrolls. A freethinker who challenged orthodox views with some hypotheses that attracted popular attention as much as scholarly skepticism
