Benedictus Aretius (1522-1574) was a Swiss scholar.

Biography

Reformed theologian, NT scholar, and botanist. Born at Berne, rose to great distinction as a preacher and professor of Theology at Marpurg, but especially for his study of rare plants living in the Alpes. Died at Berne, April 22, 1574.

Works on Second Temple Judaism

Besides books of theology, Aretius wrote a popular exegetical commentary on the whole of the New Testament.
