Ponzio Pilato (1962) is a film directed by Gian Paolo Callegari and Irvin Rapper.

Abstract

Pilate wants Jesus convicted, to avoid the release of the terrorist Barabbas at the Passover. To this end he tricks Judas into betraying Jesus. Pilate's plot fails, as the crowd choose to save Barabbas, not Jesus. Judas hangs himself in remorse.

French actor Jean Marais stars as Pilate. American actor John Drew Barrymore plays both Judas Iscariot and Jesus of Nazareth.

Editions and translations

Produced in Italy (1962). Released in Italy on 15 February 1962, and internationally in the following years.
