Dear ... :

I hope my email finds you well.

Are you familiar with the work of ... and his/her recent edited volume: ... ? It was suggested to us to organize an online presentation of the volume. What is your opinion?

Dear Jim.

I hope my email finds you well.

We would be very pleased to present your work on John the Baptist in our new series of online meetings: "Meet the Author". Not a book presentation but an interview/conversation led by another specialist of the Enoch Seminar (in this case, myself) with you and a group of 3-5 panelists of your choice on a specific topic of your research: (tentative topic, you may change it) Was John the Baptist the Teacher and Mentor of Jesus?

Just to give you an example, this is the meeting that is scheduled in June on Luke/Acts, a conversation between myself, Joshua Smith, and panelists Isaac Oliver, Jocelyn McWhirter and Joshua Scott. In our experience, this (more informal) format (which focuses more on a specific question related to the content of a book, rather than on the book itself) works better than the traditional book reviews.

Possible dates include either Dec 9 (or 11) or Dec 16 (or 18) the following week) around 10:30AM-noon or 12:30 (or in February or March 2025). We need to have it scheduled as soon as possibly (details about panelists may come later. You may contact colleagues of your choice as panelists: somebody like Joan Taylor, Federico Adinolfi, Joel Marcus, etc. etc. in order to create a diverse panel).

Let me know at your earliest convenience.

Best.

We are trying to reschedule the presentation of your book, but with a slightly different format, as an interview/conversation of another specialist (Isaac Oliver) with you and a group of 3/4 panelists on the central topic of your research: How the Rabbis Taught the Jews (Not) to Read the Bible.

Just to give you an example, this is the meeting that is scheduled in June on Luke/Acts, a conversation between myself, Joshua Smith, and panelists Isaac Oliver, Jocelyn McWhirter and Joshua Scott. In our experience, this (more informal) format (which focuses more on the content of a book, rather than on the book itself) works better than the traditional book reviews.

Possible dates include either Oct 28 (or 30) or Dec 11 (or the following week) around 10:30AM-noon. We need to have it scheduled as soon as possibly (details about panelists can come later. You and Isaac may contact colleagues of your choice).

Let me know at your earliest convenience.

Best. Gabriele

Yes, the meeting will be part of the new "Meet the Author Series" which will start on June 12 with a conversation on the Jewishness of Luke. It will not be a "traditional" book presentation. The idea is to focus on a specific topic suggested by the publication of a new book. In the first 30 minutes we will have a sort of interview of the author(s), followed by a discussion involving a (diverse) group of panelists. The focus should be more on the topic than on the book, even though of course it is the opportunity to presents the major conclusions of your volume and you will be introduces as the editors of the volume.

So far we have scheduled 4 meetings:

1) Joshua Smith on the Jewishness of Luke (June 12)

2) The two of you on the use of Israel's Scriptures in early Christian Writings (Sept 25).

3) Rebecca Wollenberg on "How the Rabbis taught (not) to read the Bible" (Oct 28)

4) James McGrath on John the Baptist (December 2024)

It is good to have plenty of time to prepare for the event. The sooner we know the names of the panelists, the sooner we will start to advertise the event.

Best. Gabriele
