Carlo Bellini (1735-1804)

Born in Firenze (Italy), Bellini came to the United States at the invitation of his friend Filippo Mazzei. From 1779 to 1803, he was professor of Modern Languages at Italian at the College of William & Mary-the first Italian to teach at an American university. Died in Williamsburg.
