Pamfilo of Magliano (1824-1876) -- Franciscan friar, priest & educator
Born in Magliano (Abruzzo), Pamfilo entered the Franciscan Order in 1839. He came as a missionary to the United States in 1855 to help establish the Order there. He was responsible for the establishment of major institutions of the Order in the Northeastern United States, notably, St. Bonaventure College, which was to become St. Bonaventure University, of which he was appointed as first President. In 1867, Pamfilo was summoned back to Italy. Died in Rome.
