Horae Hebraicae et Talmudicae <Latin> (1658-1674) is a book by John Lightfoot.

Abstract

Hebrew and Talmudical exercitations upon the Gospels, the Acts, some chapters of St. Paul's epistle to the Romans, and the first epistle to the Corinthians.

Editions and translations

Published in England (6 vols.; Cambridge 1658-1674)in six volumes:

  • Vol.1-2: (a) In Chorographiam aliquam terrae Israeliticae. (b) In Evangelium S. Matthaei (Cambridge: Story, 1658)
  • Vol.3: In evangelium Sancti Marci (Cambridge: Field, 1663)
  • Vol.4: In epistolam primam S. Pauli ad Corinthios (Cambridge: Field, 1664)
  • Vol.5-6: (a) In Acta apostolorum (b) In partem aliquam Epistolae ad Romanos, ed. (Leipzig: Lanckis, 1679)

Translated into English (1684), in two volumes, edited by G. Bright and J. Strype:

  • Hebrew and Talmudical exercitations upon the four Gospels, the Acts of the apostles, some chapters of the Epistle of S. Paul to the Romans and the first Epistle of the same apostle to the Corinthians (London: Strype, 1684).

A German ed. of the Latin was published edited by Johan Benedikt Carpzov.

Christian Schöttgen (1687-1751) supplemented the work in 1733-1742:

A new English ed. in four volumes appeared in 1859:
