Gemma Bellincioni

Gemma Bellincioni (1864-1950) was an Italian opera singer. Having attended in the audience the Gratz production of the Salome in 1905, she personally invited composer Richard Strauss to conduct the Italian premiere of the opera at Teatro Regio, Turin, Italy on 23 December 1906. She played the title role and performed herself the Dance of the Seven Veils.
