Overview

A marginal character in the Gospels, Barabbas is present in numerous Jesus movie, especially on those that focus on the Passion of Jesus. In some Jesus movies the character gains some special relevance as the leader of the zealot party in Jerusalem. What Barabbas did before and after his encounter with Jesus is the subject of numerous fictional accounts, which have made him even the protagonist in several films.
