John Stanley (1712-1786) was a English organist and composer. Born in London, England, was almost blinded in a domestic accident at the age of two but endowed with greta musical talent and a n extraordinary memory, became in 1729 the youngest person ever to obtain the Bachelor of Music degree (B.Mus.) at Oxford University. In 1734 he was appointed organist to the Society of the Inner Temple - a position which he held until his death in 1786.
