'Salome (1937) is a ballet choreographed by Lester Horton--a revised version of Salome (1934 Horton, Montaya), ballet

Abstract

Lester Horton adapted his choreography to dancer Bella Lewitzky, who gave a more athletic and sensuous interpretation of the role of Salome, previously performed by Joy Montaya. The ballet played twice in 1937 (Pasadena and Los Angeles) and twice in in 1938 (Los Angeles and San Francisco), with no significant changes. When in 1948-49 Lewitsky reprised the role, it was with a new cast and an almost completely revised choreography.
