Rudolph Schildkraut (1862-1930) was an Austrian Jewish actor, active in Europe and then in the United States. In 1927, American filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille asked Rudolph and his son Joseph to play the two major "distinctively Jewish" characters in his movie on the life of Jesus, i.e., Caiaphas and Judas Iscariot, respectively. For Joseph Schildkraut this would not remain the only biblical roles of his career; in 1935 he featured Herod the Great and Nicodemus in 1965.
