Overview
- 1681 - First "Protestant" translation of the New Testament by João Ferreira de Almeida.
- 1719-1751 - First "Protestant" translation of the whole Bible, based on the work by João Ferreira de Almeida.
- 1778-90 - "Catholic" version of the whole Bible, by Antonio Pereira de Figueiredo, based on the Vulgate.
- 1933 - "Catholic" version of the whole Bible, by Matos Soares, based on the Vulgate.
Numerous translations have been published after Vatican II (1972, 1988, 2000, 2002), The Jerusalem Bible (Portuguese ed., 1976, 2002), ka Biblia do Peregrino (by L. Alonso Shokel (2002), the revised ALmeida Bible, etc.
