Maria Ewing (b.1950) is an American opera singer. Born in Detroit, MI, she began her singing career in the 1970s. She is particularly well known for her sensitive interpretation of the title role in Richard Strauss's Salome, on stage and in sound and video recordings. She showed remarkable talent not only as a singer, but also as an actress and dancer.
