After the death of Roland de Vaux in September 1971, Pierre Benoit succeeded him as editor-in-chief of the International Team and the DJD series.

In 1972 Spanish Jesuit scholar Jose O'Callagan proposed to identify Greek papyri fragments from Cave 7 as portions of the New Testament.

1n 1976 Milik published the Qurman fragments of 1 Enoch.

In 1977 the Temple Scroll (discovered probably in 1956) was first published by Yigael Yadin. It shifted the emphasis from the theological to the halakhic elements of the scrolls.
