Julio Cortés Soroa (1924-2009) was a Spanish scholar. Julio Cortés was born at Bilbao in 1924. He graduated from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in 1953. He began his academic career as an Arabist in Beirut and Damascus. In 1967 he moved to the United States where he taught Spanish and Arabic at the University of North Carolina Chapell Hill, until his retirement. Cortés died at Creixell [Spain] in 2009.
