Overview
Overview

The Brazilians are the multi-ethnic citizens of Brazil (circa 193 million). Aside from the indigenous population, most Brazilians or their ancestors came from other countries (mainly Portugal, Italy, Germany, Japan and Africa) within the past five centuries, as a result of immigration and slave trade. They primarily speak the Portuguese language.

Most Brazilians today live within the borders of independent Brazil (circa 190 million). There are many Brazilians in nearby Paraguay, and sizeable populations of immigrants and their descendants in the United States, Japan, and other countries.
