Overview

At the beginning of his ministry Jesus is referred to as the "son of Mary" and no reference is made in the Gospels to Joseph of Nazareth outside the Infancy narratives. Christian tradition assumed that Joseph of Nazareth died at Nazareth during Jesus' Hidden Years. The actual episode of the Death of Joseph is described only in later sources, in the History of Joseph the Carpenter (6th-7th cent.).
