Bernard de Montfaucon

Bernard de Montfaucon (1655-1741) was a French scholar, a captain of grenadiers and then a Benedictine monk. Learned ancient languages (Greek, Hebrew, Chaldean, Syriac, and Coptic), becoming an expert in Greek paleography and in the study of the Church Fathers.
