John Marco Allegro (1923-1988)Professor at the University of Manchester. In 1953 was invited to be the first British representative on the international team working on the recently discovered Dead Sea Scrolls. A freethinker who challenged orthodox views with some hypotheses that attracted popular attention as much as scholarly skepticism
