Walter Baumgartner (1887-1970) was a Swiss scholar.

Biography

Walter Baumgartner was born in Winterthur in 1887.

A Semitist and biblical scholar, Baumgartner was professor first in Giessen, Germany (1920) and then in Basel, Switzerland (1929-58). He devoted much of his scientific work to the publication, along with Ludwig Koehler, of the Lexicon in Veteris Testaments libros (1953), of which cured a supplement in 1956 and a new edition in 1967.

Baumgartner died in Basel, Switzerland in 1970.
