Rudolf Karl Bultmann (1884-1976) was a German scholar.

Biography

One of the most influential Christian theologians of the 20th century. Professor at the University of Marburg, Germany.

Bultmann was raised in a Lutheran family and was himself a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church. Little known, it seems, is the dual fact that 1) he was never ordained; and 2) he was an extremely faithful participant in the life of the Church even, when able to attend his home church in Marburg, standing at the rear door holding the 'poor box' and receiving the offerings given on behalf of the less fortunate.
