Józef Bielawski (1910-1997) was a Polish scholar.

Biography

Józef Bielawski was born August 12, 1910 in Stara Wieś, Poland.

A graduate of Jagiellonian University, in 1948-1950 he served as the cultural attaché of the Polish Embassy in Turkey. He is regarded as the father of Islamic studies in Poland, having created and directed the Arab and Islamic studies program at the University of Warsaw since 1968.

Bielawski died September 19, 1997 in Warsaw, Poland.
