Zenon / Zeno of Caunus (3rd century BCE) was a secretary of Apollonius, the finance minister to Ptolemy II Philadelphus and Ptolemy III Euergetes.

Overview

A native of the Greek town of Caunus in Asia Minor, Zenon moved to Philadelphia (Egypt), where he served in the Ptolemaic financial administration. In this capacity he visited Judea where he had contacts with the Tobiads for the collection of taxes in the region.

Much of his correspondence has survived (see Zenon Papyri), providing an extraordinary source of information on the status of Judea under Ptolemaic rule.
