Bethany (modern al-Eizariya, West Bank) was a village in Judea.

Overview

Bethany was a small village in Judea near Jerusalem.

According to the Synoptics, Jesus spent some time at Bethany there during his last week at Jerusalem. It was in the House of Simon the Leper at Bethany that Jesus was anointed. The Gospel of John instead maintains that Bethany was the village of Mary, Martha, and Lazarus, and the anointment took place in their home.
