Modin (modern Modi'in-Maccabim-Re'ut, Israel) was a small town in Judea, renowned as the hometown (and burial place) of the Maccabees.
Overview
Although the exact location of Modin is disputed, the area in which the town was located lies halfway between Jerusalem and the coast.
Modin was the headquarter of the Maccabees, the place from where the rebellion against Menelaus and Antiochus IV Epiphanes started.
Once again, during the Bar-Kokhba revolt Modin was at the center of the rebellion.
