According to Jewish tradition, Tobit and his wife Hannah are pious Israelites of the Tribe of Naphtali who were exiled to Assyria. Their son Tobias undergoes an adventurous journey, accompanied by the archangel Raphael, disguised as a human. The angel allows Tobias to marry cousin Sarah, freeing her from the power of a demon. The angel also heals Tobit from his blindness before revealing his true identity and departing.
