David Noel Freedman (1922-2008) was an American scholar. After earning his PhD in Semitic Languages and Literature at the Johns Hopkins University in 1948, Freedman held a series of professorial and administrative positions at various theological institutions and universities, notably, Pittsburgh Theological Seminary (1948-64), San Francisco Theological Seminary (1964-71), the University of Michigan (1971-92), and the University of California San Diego (1886-2008). He is best known as the editor of the Anchor Bible Dictionary (1992).
