The Antonia Fortress or Tower of Antonia was an Herodian Fortress.

Overview

In the late 1st century BCE, Herod the Great rebuilt a Hasmonean fortress at the northwest corner of the Jerusalem Temple and dedicated it to Mark Anthony.

Under the Herods and the Romans the Fortress was the most conspicuous sign of their control over Temple. In it the vestments of the High Priests were kept.

The fortress was destroyed during the Jewish War.
