James Stuart (1700-1789) was a Scottish scholar.

Biography

The Rev. James Stuart was born at Glenfinlass. He studied at the University of St. Andrews, was ordained minister of Killin in the year 1737. An eminent member of the Society in Scotland for propagating Christian Knowledge, he was the author of the first translation of the New Testament into Scottish Gaelic, from the original Greek. He died on June 30, 1789.
