Category:Simon the Zealot (subject)
According to Christian traditions, Simon the Zealot was one of the Twelve Disciples of Jesus of Nazareth.
Overview
Nothing is known about this apostle, besides his name in the list of the Twelve Apostles. His nickname suggests that he was a member or the party of the Zealots or was very zealous in his religious commitment.
Later Christian tradition identified Simon with Simon, the brother (or cousin) of Jesus. Simon the Zealot is often associated with Thaddeus. Some legends says that they went together to evangelize Armenia and Persia and suffered martyrdom in the city of Suanir in the year 47.
Relics of Simon the Zealot (and Thaddeus) are preserved in Italy and France.
