Translations of the Bible into Slovenian language have appeared since the 16th century.
Overview
In 1555 the Slovenian Protestant reformer Primož Trubar began publishing translations of NT books into Slovenian. In 1557-60 he published the New Testament in two volumes, and in 1582 in one volume. By translating the Old Testament, Trubar's assistant Jurij Dalmatin completed the first Slovenian edition of the whole Bible (Old and New Testament, OT Apocryha) in 1584; see Bibilija (1584 Dalmatin, Trubar), book.
In 1771 István Küzmics published a New Testament for the Hungarian Slovenes in the Prekmurian dialect; see Nouvi Zákon (1771 Küzmics), book.
